The UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity

The UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity raises cultural diversity to the level of “the common heritage of humanity”, “as necessary for humankind as biodiversity is for nature” and makes its defence an ethical imperative indissociable from respect for the dignity of the individual

On page 28 it says:
"... there is no question that linguistic diversity is a necessary dimension of cultural diversity"

Article 5 states:
Cultural rights are an integral part of human rights, which are universal, indivisible and interdependent. The flourishing of creative diversity requires the full implementation of cultural rights as defined in Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in Articles 13 and 15 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. All persons have therefore the right to express themselves and to create and disseminate their work in the language of their choice, and particularly in their mother tongue; all persons are entitled to quality education and training that fully respect their cultural identity; and all persons have the right to participate in the cultural life of their choice and conduct their own cultural practices, subject to respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

In the Implementation plan point number 5 says:
"Safeguarding the linguistic heritage of humanity and giving support to expression, creation and dissemination in the greatest possible number of languages"

On page 22 it says:
"cultural diversity is a source of enrichment for society, drawing upon a broad spectrum of world visions, enlightenment, ideologies and creativity that offer all citizens several possible lifestyles, both individual and collective. In other words, diversity offers new capabilities, skills and opportunities"

Introduction

A.S.I.M.o.V. is a way to both bring public attention to a problem in current speech processing technology and find a way to solve it. A.S.I.M.o.V. is a team participating in the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE. The team is currently composed of only one person, me. I work on this project in my spare time and am doing my best to get to the end of the XPRIZE conpetition. The competition is not the sole reason for this project, I firmly believe that current speech technology is not up to the task of doing a service to society and that mine is probably a good solution to the problem. Should I fail the competition I will continue developing the project on my own.
I have included an excerpt of the first annual report as a page of this blog titled "First Annual Report (excerpt)." The first annual report is the first requisite to continue in the competition, it will be judged and if it passes the team will continue to the next phase of the competition. In it there is a good explanation of the problem and my solution to it.
